Does anyone know what type of drink Mark and Mildred had at the nightclub? It appeared to be champagne poured over some sort of whole fruit that was already in the glass. The fruit in the bowl on the table seemed to be peaches, but I am uncertain. Any help would be most appreciated.

shareI think he was making bellinis. They are made with white peaches. He appeared to muddle the fruit before he poured the champagne (or prosecco) over it.
shareI wondered about bellinis, too, but I don't think he actually muddled the fruit. It looked like he just rolled it around in the glass. Perhaps it was a peeled peach, and this was just a different way of making a bellini. It looked delicious, anyway.
shareAt the end of that scene, the camera lingers on Ida Lupino for about five seconds - long enough to be definitely noticed. I swear it looks like she is doing something with her mouth or tongue, like maybe making a gagging face as it dawns on her what Mark is asking her to do. You can't really see as her mouth is hidden by the drink glass, but she's definitely doing something.

It seems that she is bumping the glass against her bottom teeth. I have no idea why she did this. I came here to see if anyone else observed this.
shareI think it was to hide her true reaction to being asked to sleep with someone else to advance Loving's career. It is similar to when Mrs. Kyne puts on her sunglasses later on so that perhaps her husband can't read her as well.
shareI agree, she was hitting the champagne glass against her teeth. You can hear the "ting, ting" sound it makes. And they reversed the film so it made it seem like she did it twice. I had to rewind the DVR a couple times to make sure. It was after she said she loved him and maybe it was like a "yeah, right", or "omg, what did I just say" moment.
shareYes, they do appear to be whole, unpeeled peaches. He doesn't seem to be actually muddling the peaches, just lightly poking at them and turning them around. Maybe he's just slightly piercing the skins. Hard to tell what instrument he's using (maybe a bar spoon?), but it's not a muddling stick. It's too far away in the two-shot of them, but in the next shot looking over Mildred's shoulder he's suddenly no longer whatever it is and is going to pour the champagne.
This reminded me of another classic film I saw recently - can't think of the title right now, dagnabbit - where champagne was poured over smaller, peeled peaches (or maybe it was pears). In any case it looked fantastic.
Yeah, that was interesting and a bit confusing.
