Are so savvy, why did they fall for the "stolen cattle" trick? All the "warrior" males let themselves be lured away to go after cattle? Then they almost immediately recognize the pattern after they are too far away to help wimpy Aaron defend his wife and kids? And did Lars leave anyone to defend his family?

There are so many unanswered questions in this movie. I am left trying to decide if that is what makes it a classic or if it is overrated.

Mose Harper recognised that it maybe a trap at the Edwards ranch, hence why Ethan suggested Aaran stay behind.

It later appears that this may have been a revenge attack for something Ethan did, remember Scar confronts Ethan about losing two sons and for each son he takes many scalps at which time Martha's is presented. I think Ethan killed Scar's sons.
