So Who Kidnapped the Kid and Why?

It was frustrating to me as a viewer to have the kid returned at the end with no explanation of who the kidnappers were. At the beginning, when they spent a long scene with Glenn Ford in a tense meeting with his board and his brother, it seemed like that would pay off into something related to the kidnapping. But it was just dropped. Was it someone who just knew he was rich and wanted his money? Was it his brother who obviously resented him? Was it a competitor or someone at the company who had a problem with him? We never know.

Also it seems like the police weren't doing very much to solve the crime. They were basically useless. Why not set up the meeting point to deliver the money so that could lead them to the criminals.

I did really like Juano Hernandez in this movie. What a great, understated performance. His character misses nothing. And is it just me, or does he resemble Robert Mitchum?
