Milli Vanilli,Ashlee Simpson...Margia Dean?

Does anybody know the reasoning behind the dubbing of another voice in place of Margia Dean's? It's so incongruous and distracting, especially since an American actress was used rather than a British one. I know several people have mentioned it on this board and I thought perhaps somebody had read the story behind it.

Good question. I've always wondered why she was looped over myself. But as Margia Dean was (and is) an American, I suppose someone decided to use another American to dub her fellow countryperson. This might also have made Brian Donlevy's American Quatermass seem less the odd man out among the Brits.

Sadly it is so obviously dubbed it is distracting in her scenes. I always thought she must have had something strange about her own voice for it to be dubbed.

I've seen it happen in other films that an actor's entire performance has been dubbed by someone else. You're right, it's very distracting. Ordinarily they'd only loop it over if for some reason her voice didn't register well. Since Dean is an American, it seems to make no sense to just dub in another American voice (dubbing in a British voice might have made some sense). I can only suppose that either the filmmakers had to dub so much of her voice that they decided to do it all, or they simply decided her voice -- and, hence, her performance -- simply wasn't what they needed.
