Does the title sequence seem a tad light-hearted?

The song and titles seemed more apropos of a Sinatra romance comedy than a sociopathic killer flick.

reply

Yes, I noticed that as well.

I agree. At first, I thought the guide had mixed up the movie that the TV station was showing.
Very interesting though. I wonder why that opening was chosen.

Fasten your seatbelts.... It's going to be a bumpy night!

reply

Yeah. They're certainly not very suspenseful!

reply

Also, the theme song doesn't help......

The book the film is based on is SOOOO GOOD! (This is the author who gave us Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives!)

It's strange that neither of the film versions of A Kiss Before Dying have been half as suspenseful, or creative, as the source material.

reply

Yes! The title sequence was surprisingly flippant - as if it were for a Rock Hudson/Doris Day romantic comedy.

reply

Ha!
You beat me too it with exactly my thoughts...

I'd bought the DVD because it was in a list of 'More noirs from TSPDT'.. and not watched it immediately. This afternoon I picked it out to watch.. saw the opening sequence and stopped to check.. have I bought the right film? Have I been sold the correct disc in the box?..

And "this looks like a Doris Day musical" was precisely what I thought... It took several minutes to get that idea out of my mind..
So much so that I expected the opening.. Shes crying and the implication is she is pregnant.. would turn out to be a lighthearted joke .. that she had failed to buy some silly hat she wanted.. or...

As everyone else.. i wonder who thought to use those images

few visible scars

Absolutely agreed, cookiela. I've just finished the book for the first time, and it's much more chilling (with respect) than this dilm version. The Bud of the novel was so much more calculating and devious, and I liked the novel's ending so much better.

Really, I'm not trying to rubbish the film, but I found it disappointing after the novel. For one thing, I felt the film was too rushed. I know it was the style of the time, that long running-times were unheard-of ... it's just a pity that the story didn't get much chance to build. And they left out the second sister entirely!

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

reply

HA!

That’s almost exactly what I thought while listening to it a few minutes ago.

I actually like how they did this. It gives you the wrong impression at first.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

reply

it's a little kooky.

today's special: shrimp ceviche!

You nailed it.... For a thriller, the opening sequence felt more like you were about to watch a rom-com.... I found it sort of odd.

Wow, I can only say "me too." I got hold of this movie after reading a review, and when the credits started I wondered if I was watching the wrong thing. I actually came here to comment and see if anyone else felt the same way. Apparently everyone does.
