No, he is talking about how his wife loved him and never made fun of him the way his army buddies did or the way other kids did when he was young. Then he says, "Cop murdered her," not "Cotten murdered her." (And it's Cotten, not Cotton.)
By the way, I've seen a lot of films and TV shows in my 65 years, and the only time I ever heard an actor slip like that was when Sean McClory, at the very end of an episode of Perry Mason titled The Case of the Scandalous Sculptor, waves to Mason as Mason walks away and says, "Bye, Ray." Then he catches himself and quickly just says, "Bye." That's the last bit of dialog in the episode. I wonder whether no one caught it at the time, which seems unlikely, since it's pretty obvious; or whether they didn't want to do the scene again and just wanted to wrap.
