One of the ten best sports films
A great film. Top notch acting and very well paced. Bogart was outstanding and Steiger wasn't far behind. Probably based on Carnera but had enough original stuff to avoid predictability.

As for the "sports" angle to this movie: the fight scenes are ludicrous. More than once, Toro uses an illegal wrestling move (a downward pounding strike on the opponent's shoulders). That's how badly the fights were choreographed. And every time Toro is demonstrating his "glass jaw", its ridiculous how quickly he flops to the floor.
Bogart and Steiger should never have been cast in this movie, especially given how terribly miscast Toro was. He is in almost every scene-- and he's horrible. This was a case of a director or producer falling in love with a casting decision and suffering the consequences.
But, Im guessing your "top 10" accolade is sarcastic, so I'll stop bashing it.
