It seems like this forum would be flooded about comments concerning this great star's final moments in Hollywood history. And about the movie itself (it's rated at a 7.5!) I haven't seen it yet, so could someone enlighten me as to why there are no comments about it?

Well said, Im Luvin. Why do you think Lord of the Rings is a top five film? Because the Internet Crazy kids vote for it all the time. I will bet that very few under 21 even know this film exists.

This is a really great movie on so many levels- first a great New York City movie- the opening credits set against views of NYC when it was most beautiful, rugged and powerful! All the acting is superb- and it is supposed to have been based on a true story, that of Primo Carnera. Bogart gives an excellent last performance and Steiger (indeed everyone else is excellent too, many of the guys also appear with Robert Stack in the TV show Eliot Ness mad a couple of years later! This is a classic.

Unless its a classic like Casablanca, its not going to get many hits because it came out before 1980. That's today's internet audience.

Ive always said there are too many children on this site and it's almost impossi ble to get an intelligent debate or conversation going without alot of name calling and childish references. There's also the racists who come on and try to bait posters into racial arguements that take the focus totally away from the movie, which is why we're supposed to be here anyway.
This was my first Bogart movie. I saw it back in the 70s and it's still a favorite of mine. Much as I liked Bogart, it's Rod Steiger who's always been one of my favorite actors and here you see why he was so great. I always loved boxing movies and this was great in it's portrayal of the corruption of a once great sport.
Oh, cool, I'm going to watch this! I just bought the DVD!

You gave the answer in your question, 'you haven't seen it yet', it appears that few people have. This movie is not shown often enough. I can't remember the last time I saw it as compared with Casablanca which seems to be on every few months. Steiger and Bogart are both excellent as is the rest of the cast.
I also think the boxing community does not think too highly of this movie even today.

I watched it on Turner Classic Friday night and must admit I had no desire to watch it but I got caught up in it from the start and stayed with it. As usual Bogart was at the top of his game but the film kind of made me sad knowing this was his cinematic swan song. Watching it made me want to know what could have been. Still this is a strong movie and I highly recommend it.
shareI have gotta agree with other posters here, look at how much money crap like Transformers or Twilight makes. Look at how much of the population adores mindless/talentless celebrities. I personally think that this is one of his best films. When you consider what makes money these days... it is a compliment that few people are posting about this film.
shareWell, it's a perfectly shoddy movie. Bogart and Steiger cannot save it. Perhaps if you watch 30 second clips and just 30 second clips. But any time either one is not talking the film sags and breaks. Toro, the boxer, in particular is a terrible miscast.
And the editing. My favorite scene, for its unintended hilarity, is the "climactic ending". He's about to type on a typewriter. Dramatic music. Then camera follows his girl as she... dramatically goes to make a dramatic cup of coffee... camera follows her as she dramatically returns with coffee on a tray... then he starts to type.
This movie was made for Mystery Science Theatre 3000. The less said about this movie the better, unless its said by Tom Servo, Crow, or Gypsy.
Great film! Classic. Bogart's final performance is masterful! With his health issues beginning to take their toll, he put in something very impressive.
