Hi Tom! Haha, yes, I purchased the Jayne box-set a couple months ago, since I had seen before some documentaries on her, and I heard that those two movies are her most popular. Unfortunately, it only contains three movies. It should have contained at least 5, like the ones of Carmen Miranda, Alice Faye and Betty Grable, who also happened to be at 20th Century Fox.
Despite her being a sex-symbol, there's something very cute and innocent about Jayne, which was not faked. That makes her extremely appealing to my eyes. I've seen many documentaries on her over the past years, and she was always very sweet and polite in the interviews (another plus in my book). I remember very especially a footage from a '60s (I think) TV show in which she was playing the piano very serious and concentrated, and you can perceive her wish to be taken seriously. That was just cute and moving.
Her son recalls her very fondly in interviews and says she was a good mother, and that she gave her own life to keep her kids safe during the car accident. That always puts tears in my eyes. It's so sad that she passed away that soon, and in such a tragic way. I just hope she found true happiness during her short lifetime.
Well, as for Marilyn, I'm afraid I'm not a fan yet, even though I own several of her movies on DVD. You know well that I bought them because of her co-stars (Claudette Colbert, Jane Russell, Ginger Rogers, Betty Grable, Evelyn Keyes, Barbara Stanwyck, etc.), but I still enjoy some of her performances. My most favorite so far would be "How to Marry a Millionare", in which she was hilarious!
Oh, I actually own those Columbia's Bad Girls of Film Noir sets, Vol. 1 and 2! You know, I'm currently trying to do my very best at watching movies with English subtitles, and I think I'm improving my skills, LOL.
Thanks to Vol. 1 I "discovered" the wonderful Lizabeth Scott, for which I'm glad, and even more so for knowing she's still around. She was very beautiful and talented in her youth. I also enjoyed very much "The Killer That Stalked New York", in which Evelyn Keyes was just wonderful. She should have been a big star.
I didn't get around to check Vol. 2 yet, in which there are those Cleo Moore movies. I know you're very fond of her, and I kept that on mind when I ordered the DVD sets. I know you have good taste, and I'm sure she must be must be very special. You can be sure I'll tell you my thoughts once I saw her.
