Needs a remake

Good movie bit it needs a 21st century remake with all of the high definition equipment we have today. Throw in an all-star cast with Katy Perry as the lead and we are in business.

The actors in the original were mediocre, at best. This is understandable as they did not have an A-list budget in 1956. Now, armed with money and all of that that The Powers That Be have and this could be remarkable,. Right now it is just "that old movie with 'what's his face' in it."

I must correct you. The film had a huge budget for its day and all the actors were splendid.

Katy Perry apart from being able to sing has no real actual on screen acting experience unless you count Zoolander 2 as a classic.

Her voice talents include that wonderful never to be forgotten film series 'The Smurfs'
In my humble opinion though Smurfs 2 should have swept the Oscars but for some baffling reason was beaten to it by '12 years a slave'

FP doesn't "need" a remake. You could do one, but just because it'd be made in the 21st century doesn't mean it would be better -- or for that matter, any good. You'd have to have a good script, characters, director and actors. All these are out there, but with your recommendations we'd have one lousy movie.

Your post makes it clear you know absolutely nothing about the original or the people who made it and that your main concern is special effects and non-star nitwits like Katy Perry, who would be a moronic choice for a remake...unless it's like most remakes today: vacuous, eye-glazing crap that makes no demands on the intellect. Maybe that's all you need.

Looking at some of her other posts I'm a little bit suspicious that she is just here to wind people up.

She seems to have peculiar views on other shows - but hey ho - as long as she doesn't get involved with any remake then I'll be happy.

PS A robot like Robby is - I think - only about 15 - 20 years away. I don't think he (or it) would live in the UK though because the heavy rain we had in April would promote rust.

Sounds like, stuck in the UK, Robby would need to give himself an oil job.

Or would we just remake him?

Hobnob, I'm going to miss seeing your posts after the shutdown. All the best for the future. 🐭

Why not, with all the other remakes that have been done!

I've been telling people for 20 years that this movie needs a remake. However, I want to see a updated version that follows closely to the original story, without a lot of PC influence. Any ideas for casting?

reply

Hmm casting - now it could be done in the Star Trek remake style where you have Pine at least capturing the spirit of Kirk but Karl Urban being not only a look alike but sounding like McCoy too.

Now FB doesn't have as big a following as Star Trek and I'm also not sure of the age demographics of those who like it so the producers might not have to worry about the actors either looking like or acting like the original cast. But they would need strong character actors as there would be nothing worse than a bland crew.

Morbius : Kenneth Branagh

JJ Adams - Tom Hardy

Doc Ostrow - Edward Norton

Lt Farman - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Altaira - Nicola Peltz

Controversial perhaps - but it's my best shot

Just watched it again. It was fantastic in 1956. Loved it. But yeah, I'd like to see a good remake.

Please improve, not necessarily in this order:
1. the acting -- they weren't bad actors, but perhaps hamstrung by the script and direction.
2. the script -- Needs to be way less stiff. And please make more sense in the science department.
3. the sets & scenerey -- needs updating
4. the effects -- ditto

Of course the other thing to do is make a special Star Trek episode out of it.

Star Trek episode which is a bit like it - even borrowing a bit of the electronic music is
