Replacement Concept For Rotating Saucer Hulls - Remake

The counter-rotating saucer hull sections were a great Ray Harryhausen 'stop-motion' concept effect in the original saucers. But that 'mechanical' concept is now too dated. For a remake of this movie I would suggest keeping the original saucers profile, but using the 3 groups of small hemispheres under the ship perimeter as the levitating force emitters and doing away with the segmented and rotating hull sections. If these groups of hemispheres were lit with color when the saucer was in flight, it would be a similar concept to that used by the flying saucers of the 1967 TV series "The Invaders". However, their under-saucer hemispheres were larger. A distorted surrounding region could also be added (like the original version under-ship forcefield) to indicate a levitation force emitted.

If the retractable pedestal/elevator concept was replaced with retractable landing legs, and all saucer drive was by perimeter hemisphere groups... the saucers would provide a large volume interior for crew quarters, weapons stations, food galley, etc. Useful for human exploration of the stars, after we defeat the invaders and take possession of their saucer ships. Of course that human use of the saucers would occur in the sequels to the EVTFS remake.

The saucers are about 100-foot in diameter. And I think the saucer profile would accomidate 3 deck levels. Similar to the C-57D of 1956 "Forbidden Planet" movie. Throw in human-designed mass-produced faceless humanoid robot servants, and EVTFS can launch a great sci-fi of one such ship & civilian human crew exploration of a distant alien planet - as a sequel sci-fi TV series.

Sorry, but I don't agree with you. I believe that Ray Harryhausen's flying saucers are the ultimate UFOs. They are symbolic of alien machinery, power, and force. Although the flying saucers in "Mars Attacks" are quite similar, Ray's saucers have stood the test of time! In documentaries released on Sony/TriStar/Columbia's colorized movie versions, Ray stated that the rotating rings were his idea of "propellors" [i.e., jet turbines] which created the anti-gravity/magnetic power. The rotation on top and bottom are opposites; one going clockwise and the other going counter-clockwise, which could create an interior environment for gravity. Just as the saucers oscillate when the aliens emerge, I relate it to a helicopter's whirling blades when people emerge.
