If I had realized this was going to be aired, I would have posted an alert. Shame on me for not checking the schedule I receive each month! I keep meaning to but forget.
Anyway... I don't recall ever seeing this before, so I'm looking forward to adding this to my film journal. Robert Osborne stated that the audience probably hadn't heard of this one, but I have! I recall reading about it a number of times and came across it repeatedly while doing research for an ongoing project. It has a doggone good cast!
Just watched it myself for the first time. it wasn't too bad. short, sweet, and to the point. not every movie has to be 2 hours long. their also showing "Splendor in the grass" and "Rebel without a cause" tonight. two of my faves.
I really enjoyed it, especially for the performance from Raymond Burr. I definitely would watch it again if it crops up on the schedule.
"The Girl I Left Behind" is being shown now. Natalie is parking with Tab Hunter this time! *giggle* They're shifting from film noiresque drama to lighthearted comedy.
I saw "Rebel Without a Cause" June 9 on TCM during their memorial marathon for Dennis Hopper. But, I'll likely watch it again tonight, as I can never get enough of that film.
As for "A Cry in the Night": I really did enjoy all of it, including Herb Vigran as the put-upon desk sergeant, and the much-married floozy. It was interesting hearing that Natalie and Raymond became friends, with him as sort of a mentor to her. Very sweet...
By the way, I cannot believe the guy who reviewed it being surprised when Natalie collapsed or fainted or was knocked out by a slap from Raymond Burr! My gosh! He's over 6 feet tall and in the 200-pound range! Of course he could KO that tiny girl with a slap! Sheesh!
I thought that might be him! I was going to check the credits to verify then forgot to do that. In my film journal, I keep note of various trivia, whether a film is narrated, has flashbacks, etc., even odd bits such as the presence of windchimes, music boxes and other nitpicky bits.
What I should remember is to write the actor/actress who narrates. Hmmmm... I'll make note of that.
