Only Hugh Jackman could play Billy now.

Only Hugh Jackman could play Billy Bigelow if the movie were made now.

He is one of the most mult-talented performers who has been in films. In 2003,
PBS showed a London production of Oklahoma. Jackman played the lead as Curly and showed his immense talent for singing. The daughter of, I think, Oscar Hammerstein, the show's lyricist, said he was the sexiest Curly she'd ever seen.

Along with his strong voice, he has revealed a skill for playing the type of tough character that would be needed for Billy, in X-Men and Australia.

Jackman does have the rights to the movie and the remake has been in development for a few years. Hugh will star as Billy.

The remake should keep developing a few more years. Let's say...20. Make it 25.

I think Zac Efron would be a good choice.

And Ashley Tisdale as Julie? Let's keep that thought on the back burner until about 2050.

Clearly the above was obviously sarcasm but ok

I saw Jackman on Broadway sing the Soliloquy. He was fabulous.

I saw him in "Les Miz"--he wasn't.

I love Hugh, but persobally I don't think this movie should be remade and hope that it never is, no matter who plays lead. It should be left just the way it is.

Personally, I would love to see a remake and have a movie version which is a bit more inline with the play - such as keeping Billy's death as a suicide. Lame ass censorship in the 50s did the story and character such a discredit by changing the death to an unintentional accident.

I also agree that Hugh is the only person to play Billy at this point. A few years ago I wouldn't have thought so, but his flawless performance as Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables has convinced me Hugh now has the maturity as both an actr and singer for such a difficult role.

Considering there has been talk of a remake of Carousel for years with nothing to show for it, though, I am not too hopeful of it happening at all. :(
