The movie is good, but the clambake is overrated ...
The clambake wasn't that nice.

How do you know? You didn't eat the lobster...slit down the back and peppered good and doused in melted butter. And the clams...steamed under rockweed and poppin' from their shells.
shareOh, yum. That's why I say the clambake was overrated. I didn't get anything.

Anyway, although the clambake was real nice, the night ended in tragedy.
shareTrue. But we can't blame that on the clambake.

Remember, this was "the first clambake of the season." I wonder how nice the others were. Two fellows and one's wife, who attended the first one, weren't going to be at the others.
shareI just wonder if they always sing, "This was a real nice clambake" no matter how they really feel. You know, as a way of covering up their disappointment when a clambake doesn't go as well as planned.
Or maybe they're honest with themselves and always give the clambakes honest reviews. "This was an okay clambake." "This was a real bad clambake." "This was a four-star clambake. No clambake has been as good ..." Etc.

There's lobster and clams and treasure hunts and singing--if the fishermen and sailors can keep from fighting for a few hours, it's hard to imagine not having a nice time.
shareAnd if the fishermen and the sailors insist on fighting, then at least we can have an exciting clambake, if not an especially nice one.

I'm personally not a seafood fan or anything, but it looked like everyone really was having fun. Billy & Jigger obviously have the robbery on their minds, but it looked like a good laugh. I find "A Real Nice Clambake" a very cosy song & I loved the community spirit in it.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that it probably was a real nice clambake. I'm just bitter that I wasn't invited.

Lol, well, I think everyone's got in a scene from a film, particularly parties & things, that they wish they'd been involved in. I wouldn't have minded being at the clambake myself!

I guess I should be grateful I wasn't invited to certain other movie parties and get-togethers either. Who'd want to attend the children's birthday party in The Birds?
...Om
and who'd want to go to Damiens 5th birthday party in The Omen ?!
shareYou just made me laugh so hard! Great post.
"What do you want me to do, draw a picture? Spell it out!"
Everybody's avoiding the elephant in the room here: namely, how does the clambake in Carousel compare with the one in the Elvis movie Clambake (1967)?
(And by the way, when I mention the "elephant in the room" I'm not talking about Elvis himself: he didn't get that way until a few years later.)
