This is a classic?????!??!?!

What a bunch of garbage! First off, Bo is such a whiny b!tch, I was so glad when the bus driver finally beat the crap out of him. I'm not one to encourage that type violent comeuppance, but damn...he deserved it. The story is so thoroughly misogynist, what with Bo taking what he wants, making her his own, and all that stupidity; the one redeeming idea being that it's okay to love someone who isn't 100% pure. Still, how many friggin' times does she tell him to leave her alone? And what does everybody else do? Just stand around! Wait for him to stop and go away! No one helps the poor girl out, they just go along for the ride.

And so rude! I'm all for creating a non-sympathetic character, but, jeez! Always yelling and insulting everyone, ordering them around...okay, so he grew up on the ranch and isn't used to civilized society; so what? No one's that much of a moron. I hate this movie. There's nothing to like about it, most of it is totally unrealistic in the motivations of the characters, and it couldn't end fast enough for me. What crapola!

It's a classic not because of the story but because of its star, Marilyn Monroe, who gave one of her best performances in the film.

you won't be watching it again then mrliteral?

mrliteral can watch it again, but he should not post again .

I know what you mean. And when Virgil, Bo's keeper, really, tells them he will not be going back to the ranch with them, you know this relationship is doomed.

Agreed.

Saw 4-star rating on the guide, and Marilyn Monroe's name and thought it'd be worth a watch. Uggghhhhh. The first ten minutes are just soooo painful: the ridiculous character setups, the lame music...I barely was able to keep the thing running...

It had some decent moments, and a sure, Marilyn's OK to gawk at, but "great actress" and "fine performance" seem a stretch. Given that the tastes and theatrical sensibility of the time were different, as well as what was considered proper behavior/roles for men & women of the time--perhaps relative to its peers it was good?

This leaves me with a similar disappointment to "Johnny Guitar": another "classic" of the era I can't relate to.

This movie is utter crap! Don Murray character is so annoying, his acting is unbearable. About Marilyn, well she never was a good actress to start with. Anyway I have seen her in far better performances like in "Some Like it Hot" or "The Misfits". I dunno why this movie have been sold as "Monroe's Best performance ever"!

Marilyn's best performance ever? I disagree.
Albeit Marilyn's best performance ever wouldn't mean too much, IMO she did better jobs in several of his films (including the aformentioned).

The best thing about this movie is its length (just 90 min long) and to see the always voluptuous and sexy Marilyn Monroe on screen.

Yes Bo was a jerk for most of the film but the point of it was that he eventually learned his lesson and changed to be a more understanding person and was rewarded by winning over Cherie.
