beauregard? good looking?

i'm french and i'm positive "beauregard" doesn't mean "good-looking". for me it kind of ruined the seriousness of the movie. like if they only wanted to make Cherie say "you are quite good-looking" to Bo.
Didn't it confused other people?

From Think Baby Names:
The boy's name Beauregard is of French origin, and its meaning is "beautiful gaze". ... The name can also mean "easy on the eye".

"Easy on the eye": I can believe that his mother would translate his name as "good-looking".

Well, "beau" is the French word for "handsome" (it's the masculine form of the word). "Regard" means "glance" or "look". So put them together and the literal translation is "handsome look". From the literal, "good looking" is not all that far off the mark.
