beau is great

i disagree with those who say his performance is otp. i think it is right on the money. i have known people this loud. and i think his vulnerability when he gets beaten up at the end is really touching

Couldn't stand him almost from the minute I laid eyes on him, and it fair enough ruined the movie for me. I know a good story can be told and still contain dislikeable characters, but at the very least, they have to be interesting to watch... I didn't think he was either, and I'm still undecided as to whether this was because of the way the character was written, or Don Murray's performance of it.

This is on PBS now and it is on like once a year. First time I was taken aback by both leads, Marilyn's accent and Dons naïveté. But on my third viewing listening to the dialogue more, they are both extremely child like and it's grown on me to be a great picture and they are both extremely adorable & do great work. When he lassoed her at the bus stop I just cracked up and the whole rodeo scene was fantastic.

I've known many a "good ole boy" from that region who would make Beau seem like a meek little churchmouse. Don Murray is terrific in this film and frankly I'm kind of glad Rock Hudson wasn't used as was the original plan (Marilyn in a rare moment of star indiscretion let it be known she didn't want Hudson, then she was talked into it but Hudson heard about it and refused to make the movie. Rock was very good in many movies but this kind of loudmouth character he couldn't have pulled off.
