Cherie (Marilyn Monroe) looked like a blonde geisha

Did anyone notice how powdery-white Cherie's skin seemed? She looked like a blonde geisha girl. This is particularly evident when they show the two blondes (Marilyn Monroe and Hope Lange) together in the later part of the movie, when they are at the bus-stop/diner.

Bo kept referring to her "pale, white skin", that was the character intention(s) for the movie, Marilyn's role.

She got resistance from the studio because of the make up. But the Head of Production at 20th, Buddy Adler, liked it, so it stayed

I agree that it was a bit off-putting. Marilyn's very fair-skinned naturally so I don't really think it was necessary. Just inspires idiots to create threads like "Is Marilyn Monroe Beautiful?"...

Her skin looked almost blue-ish and ghostly transluscent in some of the night scenes on the bus. Especially sitting next to that other blonde girl.

She must've taken good care of her skin though, b/c even in the parade & rodeo scenes, her skin is a beautiful snow-white under that scorching sun!

It's part of the character. She's supposed to be pale because of her night owl existence.

The host of one of those classic movie channels, (read we think we are doing you a favor by showing you an over run old flick--- that cost us NOTHING to play), stated that white face powder was used by Marilyn to give her a certain look.

SPOILERS SPOILERS

It seemed to me that towards the end, when she started to come around, both her hair and her makeup (and probably the lighting) made changes for the better.

Up 'til then I thought she looked weird. Her skin had a ghastly pallor; her hair looked green. But that changed when she herself went through a transformation.
