How did this scene get past the censors?

In the scene where Don Murray is doing situps in his underwear, the outline of his penis is clearly visible. It's very apparent and I wonder how it passed the censors.

Bus Stop is on TCM right now; that scene just happened maybe 20 minutes ago and I didn't notice a thing! Then again, I wasn't looking there either.

Maybe the censors didn't see it as well?
