Mike Todd was determined to avoid any hint of a gay relationship between David Niven and Cantinflas that he continually showed Cantinflas hitting on women. Thus throwing off any suspicions that the two men in close contact for 80 days might be more than friends.

It was normal in the Victorian era for a gentleman to travel with his valet. it ws not an indication of gayness.
