Anastasia in Virginia?

I lived in Charlottesville, VA in the 80s and there was a woman who claimed she was Anastasia. She was pretty old at the time and suffering from dementia. Her husband, who was a bit younger than her, was a retired history professor at UVa and was very protective of her. He was definitely a character - i used to walk past their home every day and there were hundreds of empty plastic milk cartons stacked on his front porch and loaded in his pickup truck. And lots of feral puppies all over. It was reportedly pretty squalid inside.
At one point, the state set her up in a conservatorship because they said her husband wasn't capable of caring for her. Before they could come for her he took off with her and was missing for a week or so with a big hunt out for her. They found them holed up in an old farmhouse in the country side. I drove past there at some point afterwards and noticed there were empty milk cartons all over.
Such a bizarre episode. Hadn't thought about it in years until this topic popped up in MC.
