Van Johnson too old for Vera Miles

Here we have another case of Hollywood casting a 24 year old young woman who 'longs' to marry a man in his 40s...Van Johnson...

That is not unrealistic and happens in real life.

Upon reflection the chemistry between the two felt one sided until the end. I think the writers made a mistake in not revealing more about the backstory between Phillip and Jean as the coldness Phillip at times showed towards Jean may have been understood better. From what the film indicated Phillip was not born blind so my interpretation is that Phillip had an accident which caused him to feel ashamed and not up to being Jean's partner. I believe this could have been built upon furthur in the film making for a more interesting sub plot.

Not any worse than what Hollywood does to day or during Hitchcock ea films where we had an older James Stewart paired with much younger leading ladies.

Its that man again!!

But the man was rich and famous! And only 39 years old.

And the young woman was almost 27 years old anyway...

In Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Wrong Man' (1956 as well) she was already married to a 51-year-old man (Henry Fonda). And he wasn't even rich or famous!
