Rear Window, anyone?

Obviously it would be silly to suggest there was any deliberate borrowing of ideas (the book 23 Paces is based on came out in 1938, the short story RW's based on 1942...) but I couldn't help but notice the similarities...disabled guy thinks he witnessed something sinister, him and his policemen friend/s think he might be going mad, there's a pretty girl that he keeps pushing away...even the main guy in 23 Paces sounds a bit like James Stewart...odd...

There were definitely echoes of "Rear Window", as you point out; not plagiarism or anything, just similarities in the situation. Cecil Parker gets the Thelma Ritter role! Of course, "Rear Window" was the better film, and "23 Paces" suffered a bit from budget restrictions, but it was still a nicely diverting time passer, one which I really liked as a young teen and it's still entertaining.

Some superficial similarities but Rear Window is better.

I noticed hints of 'Rear Window' too in this movie. This film was OK but I think in the hands of Hitchcock it would have been better with loads more suspense.

It doesn't have the same richness of characterization that REAR WINDOW has, but it is a pleasant "Hitchcockian" mystery. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
