Blu Ray release
An excellent Blu Ray has come out from Carlotta Films in France. Available from Amazon.fr., it contains an English language special feature with director William Friedkin discussing the merits of the movie and its director.
It surpasses the Spanish and Australian PAL releases (which both utilized the same poor master) and the Twilight Time release. The latter was good but Fox would not update their video master from Letterboxed to Anamorphic. All Blu Rays are anamorphic (even Academy Ratio (1.37:1) films) so this is the best way to view this film in a home video format. TT should re-release this title on Blu Ray and utilize this master. You will need a multi-regional Blu Ray player to watch this movie as it is a Region B encoded transfer. The French subtitles are removable. If you can speak French there is another special feature analyzing this superb '50's noir (which contains elements of PEYTON PLACE and WITNESS) in that language with no subtitles. The same studio is releasing Richard Fleischer's other great crime drama- THE BOSTON STRANGLER on blu ray. Thanks Carlotta Films!
