I would like to see movies similar to this one but more into the youth of the slams in the 50's or so... Movies where the main character is a streetwise young delinquent-car thief-fast racer-knife blade warrior. A mix between Rebel with out a cause and maybe Navajeros (Gentle Knives) Jim Stark/Jaro.

For those who don't know who El Jaro is from the movie Navajeros I'll leave links below.

Yeah, the Outsiders was just on TV here today and I definitely think it's along the same lines as Rebel. It's way more full of clichés and cheesy scenes than Rebel IMO, but definitely a similar theme. Stand By Me also has a bit of that theme with Ace and his gang, though they're not the central characters. If I think of anymore I'll come back and reply again.

See the "young Savages" very loosely based on two real gangs the Viceroys and the RedWings from Harlem in New York City in the 50s No hot rods in that one staring Burt Lancaster he was a criminal lawyer .

pretty good movie at the time

It is about a blind Latino gang member who pimps his own sister who is murdered by three members of the white gang.

Blackboard Jungle(1955) was released the same year as Rebel Without a Cause and deals with juvenile delinquents; the main character is a middle age school teacher. It is a good example of a film depicting juvenile delinquents from that time period. High School Confidential(1958) also deals with troubled teens. In that film the main character is teenage troublemaker.

I don't know if you are still looking, but you should watch:

Rumble Fish; with Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane and Matt Dillon;

September 30, 1955; with Richard Thomas, about a guy obsessed with James Dean. After Dean' deth, he and his friends hold a vigil which turns into a drunk and, finally, a tragedy.

The Delinquents; directed by Robert Altman;

TEX; with Matt Dillon;

The Flamingo Kid, also with Matt Dillon;

Racing with the Moon, with Sean Penn and Nicholas Cage;

Permanent Record, witn Keanu Keeves;

River's Edge, with Keanu Reeeves;

Bad Boys; with Sean Penn;

Mean Creek; with Rory Culkin, Ryan Kelley, Scott Mechlowicz;

Sleepers; with Brad Renfro; Jonathan Tucker and Robert De Niro.

Footloose (1984) is pretty muc a reimagining/remake of RWAC.

The Loveless, with Willem Dafoe.

Cry-Baby, with Johnny Depp.

I can think of two great examples, both featuring Sal Mineo. Crime In The Streets and Dino were both great youth films of the middle 1950s.

"City Across the River"(1951) based on Irving Shulman's novel "Amboy Dukes" about World War Two era street gangs in New York. Years later Shulman wrote the outline for "Rebel Without a Cause".

"Look in any Window" from 1949.

"High School Confidential" (1957). Avery early anti drug movie from the production code barely permitted any discussion of the subject.

"The Wild Ones" come to mind even though it was about adult bikers.

TAG LINE: True genius is a beautiful thing, but ignorance is ugly to the bone.

Rumble on the Docks (1956). Far from a great film (almost like a poor man's On The Waterfront), but it's exactly what the OP is looking for. Plus, I think it's worth a watch.

Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) is also similar in some ways.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
