Why didn't the police confiscate the gun?
During Plato's interview/interrogation, the Juvenile Officer asks: "Do you have any idea why you shot those puppies?" and "Where'd you get the gun?". The Officer later mentions the need for Plato to see a psychiatrist. Since Plato is a minor and neither parent was home, why didn't the Juvenile Officer ask the location of the gun? In the Officer's mind, Plato is unstable and a potential threat to himself and others. Proper police procedure would be to confiscate/seize the weapon. It was used in the commission of a crime and was still in the possession of an unstable minor. Major plot hole!
