How Did Everyone Know They Were At The Mansion?

I think i assumed that since the gangsters liked to harrass Plato sometimes then they might have followed him once. as for the cops i imagine that even though the hosue is on a hillside it is not entirely removed from civilastion. after Plato fired te gun maybe someone heard it and called th cops. i don't know for sure of course because i haven't seen the movie in a while.

The gangsters and police didn't know. They guessed. If the gangsters and police knew they would have rushed there and there would not have been any relaxed atmosphere.

More to the point, how did Plato get from the mansion to the observatory so quickly? I thought they were supposed to be quite far apart.
