Rebel Fans - What Do You Think of Footloose as a Reimagining?

If you haven't seen the 1984 film with Kevin Bacon, I recommend it.

If you have seen both Rebel Without a Cause and Footloose, have you made the connection that Footloose is basically a retelling of Rebel?

Do you enjoy Footloose as an homage?

Does it irk you?

I liked it. It's really only the first third (up to the chickie run) that's an homage. "Footloose" then tells its own story, and doesn't feel like a remake for the rest of the movie.
