It is probably an accurate depiction of kids in the 50s because the image of happier 50s kids who live in an idyllic world is a myth from the movies of same era. It is all made up and fake. Just as there are bratty, evil , and angsty kids today there must have been even more in 40s and 50s. They didn't have any sensitivity and political correctness. They didn't have anti bullying programs at all so it all probably was worse in some places.
shareThis. What makes the Rebel such a rebel is that he's sensitive before his time (think of how gently he treats Plato compared to the 1950s jocks at school). Today's generation of kids are extremely sheltered compared to the older generations who dealt with bullying and abuse with very little support.
shareSome see it as dated, but its realistic depiction of modern teenagers certainly holds up. And grunge? Well, at least these 50's kids had their own kind of "rebel" music.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
