Jayne Mansfield

I read she auditioned for the part of Judy, but the director, Nick Ray, wanted no part of her. After seeing the movie several times, I could've seen her in the role. I also didn't care for Natalie Wood anyway. Don't get me wrong. I loved her in West Side Story and I thought she was very good in Splendor in the Grass. I just didn't care for her in Rebel. I could've seen Jayne playing that character.

Maybe Ray didn't think she was a good enough actress, and that at 22 she couldn't play a high-schooler convincingly, but still, her voluptuousness would have been an enhancement for the role.

Yes, definitely. I remember seeing her in Female Jungle. She has this really hot scene with Lawrence Tierney. Boy, could she kiss. She would've made the love scene with Jim and Judy much better. For Nick Ray to not even look at her, was unfair.

she would have been great!
