I loved Richard Burton and I liked this movie (which also included another one of my favorite actors, Michael Rennie).
But I have to say, putting dark makeup on Burton's face to make him "look" as though he really was from India? That dog won't hunt.

Maybe having a Welsh accent helps, but I do agree with you. The theory applies to Tyrone in "The Rains Came". Although he was great in the film, there was something off kilter. But on a personal note, I was looking at a site dedicated to Tyrone entitled Tyrone Power: Kings of 20th Century Fox. There was mention of the actor having a brown complexion as a child. I know about his French\ Irish\ German background, but maybe his family has Gypsy, Native American or Meditterean stock as well. Most people of his descent have fair complexions.
It was either this or starring in The Conqueror. :P
