dream fulfilled
I recently got back from a trip to the U.S. which included stopping at three of the sites of the movie Picnic. In Hutchinson I think I saw the elevator featured in the movie. ( I say think because there a lot of elevators in Halstead and I picked what appeared to be the oldest). In Nickerson with the help of a lady in the library who had been in the town when the film was shot I was directed to the Madge's home. IN Halstead I went to the park where the picnic took place. It was surprisingly small. The bridge over the "river" is still there. But there is no way those picnic scenes could have been filmed in that small space. Thanks to the lady in the library in Nickerson this problem was solved. Apparently they merged scenes shot at another location - Sterling Lake with the park at Halstead. All in all a great experience for an old man with a life long obsession with this movie
