Did William Holden have to be drunk to do the dance?

I was told once that william Holden had to have a few drinks to relx enough to do that dance as he couldn't dance for toffee? Does anyone know if this is true?

Holden was an alcoholic, but yeah, it's not that unusual for someone to take a nip to combat nerves.

This appeared to be William Holden's mechanism to become sufficiently relaxed to act in motion pictures. He also evidently felt he was a poor dancer (as did Ms. Novak), which is also mentioned in Joshua Logan's book about filmmaking.
