The Andy Griffith Show

This movie is referenced in the Andy Griffith Show, epsisode titled "Andy and Helen Have Their Day". Andy and Helen go on a picnic and Goober takes them. While getting ready, Goober asks Andy if he's ever seen the movie "The Picnic". Then Goober proceeds to say Cary Grant was in the movie and he can do a take-off on Cary Grant. Helen says Cary Grant wasnt in the movie, it was William Holden. Goober does his "Judy Judy Judy" impersonation anyways!

Look for it sometimes! That episode is hialrious!

Thanks for the tip. Sounds humorous.

When I saw this topic, I thought that someone else had the same thought I do... that PICNIC is kind of like a SERIOUS version of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Similar era and small-town characters... including a few Mayberry visitors. (Actors) Also note that the Don Knotts film THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN takes place in Kansas(!) and has a similar "Picnic" scene. And a few similar actors (Like RETA SHAW- "Taro Taro Salmon!!!") Hmmmm. I've always felt THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN was inspired in part by PICNIC!

Don't Arthur O'Connell and Don Knotts wear similar hats?
May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?

By golly, you're right! Even more convincing me there was a SPECIFIC "borrowing" from PICNIC by THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN!!! Not so much a rip-off, more an "homage."
