theme song

Have just watched this film on TV. Many moons ago back in the 1950's I had a 78rpm record of the theme song sung by no other than Jimmy Young, radio disc jockey. It was a favourite record of mine at the time. Couldn't help noticing in the film that the words of the song varied somewhat from the record. Young's version included the words-

The man from Laramie
he had so many notches on his gun, everyone
admired the fearless stranger - danger
was this man's destiny
and you never saw
a man outdraw
the man from Laramie.

Have watched the film only once but can't recall the above words in the film's theme. Actually the above words don't reflect accurately James Stewart's character in the film - he certainly was no gunman!

Those words you quote are not sung over the credit titles in the movie. Quite different words are sung.

The words (in the film) are as follows:

The man from Laramie
Oh, he was friendly
to everyone he met
no one seemed to know
a thing about him
he had
an air of mystery
he was not inclined to speak his mind
the man from Laramie

The Man from Laramie
Jimmy Stewart's here a bit ornery
He's usually a nice kinda guy
But here, he'll stick a needle in your eye

I came here to see if anyone had commented on the final song ... Every time I hear it I crack up laughing as its so damn GOOFY !! No, I'm not a young person who can't possibly understand music from back in the day - although I wasn't quite yet in kindergarten when this came out. Very different times !! Hey, I get the same chuckle from some of Sinatras lyrics too: "...'In Lama Land, theres a one man band who will play a toot for you (or close)" LOL !!!!! What a way to reduce a country down to nothing: 'Lama LL=and' LOL !!! Gotta stop, my stomach hurts !!
And yes, I do love Sinatra also so ...
Thankfully Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, the Beetles and the Stones changed things up a little. Of course we've gone over the edge these days AND I wish we could get some of the innocence back. Yes, I'm a musicnazi I guess.

"Oh, he was friendly
to everyone he met
no one seemed to know
a thing about him
he had
an air of mystery
he was not inclined
to speak his mind ..."

Gee, what imagination, creativity LOL !!!!

I can just imagine the writer working for the Stones:

"Even though he tried
He could never feel satisfied
He just wanted satisfaction
thats all he wanted, satisfaction
and he tried, yes he tried
la la la...hes a real nice guy"
