The Ending!

I saw this movie a while ago on television and missed the end due to my dogs choosing that most opportune of moments to pick a fight with one another. Could someone give me a brief rundown of how this film ended? I saw up to the point where Mr and Mrs Cochrane go running out onto a hill or something.

Additionally, if someone could tell me where I could find a fairly detailed synopsis of the whole film (or be kind enough to create one for me!) I would be very grateful. This movie perked my interest and I'd like to be able to remember what I saw more clearly.

On a final note, does anyone agree with me that Mrs Cochrane became rather annoying? I understand she would be most distressed and unreasonable, due to her child being abducted, but she just seemed a bit useless to me.

Well this is a somewhat delayed reply and I'm sure that you have found out how it ended by now, but they run out on to the cliff to find a woman with simon. the woman claims that he is her child, and when questioned about his name she says he is simply called 'baby'. she starts to walk backwards towards the cliff edge with simon in her arms when sue tries to get him off her. Whilst this was happening, the policeman starts to climb up the cliff towards the woman (I have forgotten her name)and as she gets to the edge he climbs up and grabs her. (she doesn't put up much of a fight which is quite unlikely in my opinion)Sue gets her baby back, the woman is taken away and it the ending is lovely (if a little cheesy)

I thought that the film was ahead of its time in viewing the woman who abducted the baby sympathetically rather than as simply being evil. For a British movie of the 1950s it was also good to see a woman as a Detective Sergeant, and obviously an intelligent and capable one. It was also presented as OK for a mother of a young child to resume her career - though admittedly it helps a bit if you can call on a full-time housekeeper and a full-time nanny!

Yes, I agree Mrs Cochrane became substantially annoying. And just as much because I thought Julia Arnall did a poor job of acting as because the character become irritating.
