The ending makes no sense.

1) After the humans discover the dead rat, they realize that LADY tried to save the baby from it... but why do they assume TRAMP helped too? For all they know, he was a dog who somehow entered the house (probably the same way the rat did). And even if they did put 2 and 2 together, why rush into the car, specially when it's raining and when their baby needs to be calmed? Why not call the pound instead? It's not like they kill dogs the moment they arrive.

2) Why does LADY forgive TRAMP? He saved the baby, but he had already saved her before. The issue wasn't that he was heroic; it was that he was a womanizer.

3) If a stray dog did something to help you, you would be thankful... but would you adopt them? He could have diseases and you have a new baby.

1: I guess that they wanted a thrilling scene before the movie ended, so that is why those things happened.

2: I guess that Lady was so grateful that Tramp saved the baby, that she decided to give him that second chance. It is also possible that she had realized that since he had come back to her, despite how she had confronted him and yelled at him, she was more special to him than what all those other female dogs had been.

3: There had to be a happy ending, where Lady and Tramp were married.

Intelligence and purity.

That would have been such a dull ending if jim dear just called the pound and all the excitement was summed up in a conversation. Hehe. Movie magic.

But anyways, Jim Dear and Darling seem to know Lady pretty well enough that they kinda know what she's getting at, so I think Lady somehow communicated that she wanted to chase after the pound truck, and since she was right about the rat why wouldn't Jim follow? He trusts his dog more than he trusts the dumb old aunt after the rat situation anyways.

Same when they find tramp, lady mustve acted all excited around the tramp. I can just imagine Jim Dear saying "oh is that your boyfriend Lady?" Then darling "Oh jim dear, can't we keep him?" Etc etc. and for your benefit ol' Jimmy might add "well I better take him to the vet first and get him cleaned up and up to date with his vaccinations. We just had a baby after all"

As for Lady, you must remember she grew up in a high class neighbourhood so for her to spend the evening in a dog shelter was probably the lowest her life ever got. She was utterly embarressed (and possibly pregnant and hormonal), and that's why she yelled at the Tramp. Doesn't mean she didn't love him anymore. After a nights worth of chaos I think most people forget about the petty things in life and try to look at the larger picture, after all, he might've been put down.

Don't look at me

Its quite possible that the assumption was they would kill Tramp immediately. He was picked up because he was accused of attacking the baby. They would be less likely to keep him for days with such an accusation.

Good point.

Good point. Hence why Jock and Trusty were hurrying to save him, because not only did Tramp truly love lady, but he'd die innocent.

Also, remember that Tramp had caused trouble for the pound in the past. So now with the baby thing, they would've definitely put him down (basically getting rid of a pest, in their minds).

I did not intend that answer be taken seriously, but upon reflection, it sure makes sense.
Transfer the scene from dogs to humans. There are a lot of legal, social, moral opinions written 100 yrs ago about a female's inability to commit murder. Too soft, too nurturing, too this too that. You recall that Lizzie Borden was found not guilty, despite her flimsy excuses, just a few years before Lady's setting because the jury and cops all thought a woman just could not do such a thing as bludgeon her dad and stepmom. Switch to Lady, Aunt Sarah told the parents she found the two dogs in the room. sweet gentle Lady and a strange mutt. Which one killed the rat? Grace Kelly or Robert Mitchum? Audrey Hepburn or Charles Bronson? Shirley Temple or Jason Stathum?
