Was it just me, or...

Did the rat give Tramp more of a fight than the pack of dogs did? Tramp seemed just fine after dealing with the dogs and crashing a bunch of trash around, yet he got a few injuries after fighting the rat and killing it.

It could be you, through I havent' watched this for a while, but I do remember the Rt giving Tramp a fight, don't rmemeber if it was bigger then the dogs

In the trivia section it says something along the lines of "the dog fight was designed to be a schoolyard type scuffle, but the rat fight was to the death".

Makes sense. I noticed when Tramp fought the stray dogs, he was literally grinning at them right before they went at it, and they gave up as soon as Tramp had the advantage. Meanwhile, the rat was fighting to stay alive against a predator aiming to kill.

Also, the crib was knocked over and maybe other furniture. Perhaps he was hit by something falling.

Although a dog behavior expert could give an opinion, I bet the writers just wanted to get on with the story. It seems the traditional plot arc wants the ultimate(last) fight to be the nastiest. By the way, I used to have a rat situation in my 100 year old house. I didn't know it but they (yes, they) were eating my Doberman's food at night. I heard something a little like Tramp's scuffle and went downstairs and discovered my Doberman was high up on the back of the couch fearful. Don't underestimate a rat. That night, it wedged a rawhide bone under a door so tight, it was almost Excalibur removing it.

I'm not belittling the film as it is a all time animated classic. However I did think precisely the same thing. Tramp had a much harder battle against the rat than what he had against those 3 great big vicious dogs.
