1. Miss Dove will die eventually. What is everyone gonna do THEN?
2. Do you think other teachers were jealous of Miss Dove? I mean, would they close school is the Biology teacher had a wisdome tooth removed?

shareNo, the story was about a woman who had been born into a privileged life and who might have married but who suddenly found herself having to pay her father's enormous debts after he died when she was only about 20 years old and she was determined to fulfill that obligation as she felt was her duty. She dedicated her life to being a teacher (although working for a meager wage for decades) and doing it in such a way, forever in the same town, that she made a great impact on several generations up to and including the current one. The original book by Frances Gray Patton puts all that into even better perspective.

She said in 13 years she would retire at age 67 so they'd have to cope.
