Godzilla died at the end of the first film. This is a second Godzilla who would carry the series on thru' (correct me if I'm wrong G-fans!) "Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah".

You are right, Thank You.
You are correct. (Takashi Shimura who plays Dr. Kyohei Yamane), from the first Gojira. (And who appears in this one as well). Says that this is another Gojira (Godzilla).
Apparantly. This is the Godzilla who will carry on the series. (despite the Godzilla '85 film), where Steve Martin (Raymond Burr) implys that IT IS THE SAME GOJIRA A.K.A. GODZILLA)!
I'm sure it's supposed to be a new Gojira, as confirmed by Takashi Shimura's character in this and the previous film. But did anyone else notice in the first movie (and I'm sure in 50 years they have done somewhere) that the fish, vapourised by the oxygen destroyer, actually (apparently) came back to life later on in the movie, hidden at the bottom of the (still cloudy) fish tank. Is this a mistake? A new bunch of fish? Or a hint that the oxygen destroyer has some odd side effects that may bring back Gojira for Gojira Gyakushu?
The first series of films (Sixties to seventies) are meant to be a different Godzilla, the next series (eighties and ninties) might be the same one. And GMK is confirmed to be the same Godzilla, but undead.
Regeneration is a bitch, huh?
It's not rape if you yell surprise.
this is (in my opinion) the only movie to truly explain the link between the first movie and all other movies. There are many Godzillas. The first was killed by the oxygen destroyer and according to this movie is still sitting at the bottom of the bay. there are no charts left of the oxygen destroyer as in the first movie we saw the scientist throw them all into the fire. this is why they couldn't use it again.
I don't know a lot about anything but I know a little about practically everything

That could be considered a plot hole in the Mecha-Godzilla film though, as in the original, Godzilla's bones disintegrated after he died.
