Is Anguirus the same Anguirus who becomes Godzilla's ally?
I always wondered about this. In Godzilla Raids Again, Anguirus is seemingly killed when Godzilla bites his neck and burns him to death. But in Godzilla Vs Gigan, they are friends without any real explanation(I know "Destroy all monsters" came out first, but that doesnt take place until years later).
There is a chance that Anguirus wasn't actually killed. Anguirus always takes a lot of damage but usually recovers pretty quickly. I always wondered how he continued to live after Godzilla Vs MG with a busted jaw- I mean, how do you eat?- but he was fine in "Destroy All Monsters"(which takes place later). in that movie, he survives an extreme fall. This leaves me to wonder if he has the same regenerating ability as Godzilla.
It also fits nicely well into the fact that Godzilla films often were filled with messages to the younger audience(which would be about overcoming your differences and becoming allies).
On the othr hand, the suit and design are different...Not that important, as Godzilla's design and suit changed all the time.
The fighting style is notably different, however. "Raids Again" had Anguirus often charging at an enemy using the horns on his head, while the newer one doesnt do that as much. Sometimes Anguirus leaps at his enemy, which "Raids Again" didnt have. But that might just be different technologies, as a lot(or some) of the battle in "Raids Again" was stop motion.
My big wonder though is that "Raids Again" claims Anguirus's species is aggressive towards other species. Ironic, as all of the other Anguirus films has him as an ally to someone else.
It can be argued that they're not, as Anguirus in "Raids Again" seems to be stronger. But thats not a fair comparison. Anguirus seems tough in close ranged quarters. The problem is that his later enemies were often more intelligence and more equipped than Godzilla. When he and Godzilla fought, they fought like beasts. In later films, fights became more like wrestling matches with weapons and the likes. Plus, Anguirus often fought people who would later defeat Godzilla with ease(Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla).
Obviously unless Toho confirms, we'll never know. But what do you think?
