I'm watching this on Netflix, so it's the English dubbed version. I've wanted to see this movie since I was a kid in the '90s, but could never find it.

But wow...this is not entertaining at all. A narrator that describes every little scene sort of makes watching it pointless.

But I noticed a pretty big error early on. They call Godzilla an Anguiras species? Is that supposed to be a general term for all "dinosaurs" or something in this film?

I imagine the original Japanese version is probably better, I hate how the American versions of Godzilla movies don't just add dubbing, but change the actual movies, too.

Yeah, watch the Japanese version instead. The Americanized abomination is unwatchable and I could never sit through the whole thing. There are so many problems with the English dub that it's clear they put little to no thought into it.

Godzilla was called Gigantis. The one you mentioned, Anguiras(sp) was the other monster.

The studio doing the US importing of the movie tried to market it as a different movie: Gigantis the fire monster. Editing out godzilla's fire breath and anything that connected it to the original, in an attempt to trick the audience into thinking it was a new monster movie and not a sequel.

Maybe the distributors didn't think that U.S. audiences would buy another Godzilla film, after Godzilla was clearly destroyed in the first film. But I've seen an American version and the Criterion Japanese version, and they both show Godzilla/Gigantis using his fire breath to immolate Anguirus' corpse, after the battle. Is there a cut in which that did not occur?
