I understand that the English dubbing change the name to Gigantis and this is not anywhere in the original script. However, my question is this: I recall in my childhood reading a book about Godzilla at the library that called Gigantis a female Godzilla and by implication the one who laid the egg that hatches in Son of Godzilla. I assume now that this was simply something whomever put that book together wrote, but in the English dubbed film is Gigantis ever refered to as a female? Curious is all

I know which book ur talkin about and I myself used to read it from my library, However that book actually contains false information and is incorrect on several things in regaurds to Godzilla. and no in the Japanese film it is clear that this Godzilla is still a male although they never really say tho and even in teh Son of Godzilla they never really implied to well what Minya was and Toho still enver made any official call on Godzillas sex. This is the factual reason as to why they dubbed this film Gigantis, the Prodcuer at Warner Bros. said he changed it from Godzilla to Gigantis to give the audience the feel that it was a new monster not the one that was killed in the first but an entirely new monster, however, The producer states that he regretted ever doing that and wish he had left it as was. That book I can correct it on several things. the King Kong vs. Godzilla one it states that there are 2 versions and both have a diff ending as in one Godzilla wins and in the other King Kong wins but it turns out teh only difference is Godzillas roar is heard at the end of the Japanese one along with Kongs and in teh American version only Kongs roar is heard

Actually, they just called it "Godzilla" ("Gojira" in Japanese). It was the American version that tacked on "King of the Monsters".

I've always felt Godzilla was male, however, several people from Toho...most notably the suit actor that played Godzilla in the earlier films, and the man who directed "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster...have stated Godzilla is a female.

Personally, I don't care. But I can't help thinking Godzilla's a male. FWIW, on a Discovery Channel show on dinosaurs, it stated the female T.Rex was bigger and meaner then the male T.Rex.

Yeha it was Orange. I used to check it out all the time when i was in elementary school and unfortunatley that was the books destruction lol ill explain. I checked it out for like the 15th time(I was obsessed dont blame me) and then 5 days into it my dog got ahold of it and aite the damn thing I was soo upset but not only because it was gon but because I had to pay for it, however I never did lol. I wish I could find a copy of it somewhere even tho the book is false in some cases.

I remember that book!!!!! I loved it so much. Wasn't it part of a series of monster movies?

I was thinking about that today as I watched Godzilla Raids Again for the first time since 1993. The book in question was simply titled "Godzilla" and was one of the Crestwood Monsters Series. Damn that was a cool book when I was a kid. I remember a friend of mine in the third grade saying that Gigantis was a female and that she was the mother of Minya. They also present with the whole "seperate endings" rumor as fact.

I would like to get my hands on a copy of that book for nostalgia's sake.

I was one of the lucky ones, I loved that book in elementary school too, I was lucky in the fact that the librarian was a good friend of my family and she still had the "mail in order card for that particular book series so i got the godzilla book and the creature from the black lagoon book too. I love having connections.

lol..i almost forgot about that book....did it have like diamond shapes on the front and back and it was orange..i knew it was wrong but i didnt care..it was the only good godzilla book..amazing..they need to reprint it.

Wow, I too have completely forgotton about this book by now, but I must have rented it from out local library a couple times a month back in the day. Kudos to you guys for dredging up those precious memories from my past.

YES THE BOOK WAS CALLED MOVIE MONSTERS "GODZILLA". iT APPEARED TO BE A SERIS OF BOOKS THAT PROFILED OLDER MONSTER MOVIES. ALTHOUGH INACCURATE IT WAS AT THE TIME A GOOD SOURCE OF GODZILLA INFO.

Oooh! Japan's Favorite Mon-Star! My uncle gave me that for Christmas five years ago (He was the one who first showed me the original Godzilla and got me hooked ^_^)

The book was in a monster-movie series by author Ian Thorne. I checked them out as a kid too. There was Godzilla, Dracula, King Kong, The Wolfman, The Mummy, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein The Blob and The Deadly Mantis.

Those books were in my library too. I had many fond memories reading them while growing up. I really miss those books, might have to order them someday.
