I love Timothy Carey, and didn't remember him being in the film, which I hadn't seen in years. But that didn't seem like his rather distinctive voice I heard. Anyone know if he was dubbed?

No idea why, but I've always been certain that's dubbed - and not terribly well.

The audio track is the most flawed element of this film imo, and that's one reason.
