Rumor says the transfer quality of the Image Entertainment DVD is very good, while the Geneon release is quite bad. Any comments?
Gentlemen, you can't FIGHT here, this is a War Room!

The Geneon print is above average. I haven't seen the Image version, but those 10 pack titles from Platinum and others are so-so at best.
Well, I have now read the comparison of three different versions on the dvdbeaver.com, and I ordered the Image one, since it appeared much better on screen shots. I'll leave a further note when it arrives.

The Geneon release isn't bad at all. Considering the price.
W.W.E.D?
Just be aware that the Alpha release quality is HORRIBLE! And horrible doesn't even begin to describe how bad this disc is...
The film starts with the Main Title card--completing cutting off credits for Allied Artists studios, then Wilde, and then Conte. The image quality has to be from the absolute WORST print they could find lying around. And the soundtrack--THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE FILM--has some kind of annoying buzzing in the background...
I replaced it with the Geneon disc, and I have to say I'm very happy with the quality of it--compared to the Alpha disc it looks like a Criterion.
My brother has a collection of twenty films on five discs called "Mobster Movie Pack; Collector's Set" by Echo Bridge. Most of the transfers are none too good, and I can't blame the distributor; it was pretty obvious that the original film was in pretty bad shape.
But they got a very clean copy of this one and the transfer is nearly flawless. Since my player up-converts to HD I get an especially nice viewing. About my only complaint is the projector hum in the background, but maybe that was left in on purpose.
Watta ya lookn here for?
Well, this has finally been restored and coming out on blu-ray soon (Sept. 24th).
It will be interesting to compare and contrast to the dreaded Alpha release that I've had for these last several years.
