What happened to the discussion "The Children"?

I was about to post a comment on that discussion and I discover it has been mysteriously removed. Their hostility to their mother's marriage to Ron is an important part of the story. Anyway, even though I can't stand them, I was about to say maybe Cary went slightly overboard by removing her husband's trophy from the mantle piece and other "clutter" and putting it into the basement just before Ron's first meeting with the children! While the conversation was uncomfortable, it seemed to be going reasonably well until Ned noticed the trophy was gone! Surely she did not have to erase the memory of their father so quickly, instead of giving her children some time to adjust to the new situation.

I don't know. Perhaps you could go ahead and start that particular discussion over again.

reply

Not likely. They were quite annoying, the guy even more than the girl!

reply

Of course they were! Children are always annoying when a parent wants to remarry, that's human nature, and always has been. Remember Hansel and Gretel and the stepmother abandoning them in the woods? I'm sure they were even worse than the kids in this film, and who can blame the stepmother for doing something about it!

But seriously, no grown children on Earth are going to be happy to hear that mom is planning to marry the gardener.

reply

Indeed.

Yes, the children were annoying, and she should have been prepared for that. Children are always annoying when a parent dates or remarries, at any age! If they're old enough to have cut the cord and be okay emotionally with the possibility, then they're old enough to start worrying about the will.

Seriously, her kids were immature young adults who still relied on her for emotional support and occasional home comforts, they weren't going to be thrilled with any new man. But the help?
