Silent Movie at the beginning of the film?

At the start of the film, Lou is sitting in a theater watching a silent movie about a woman being chased by hounds across an icy river.
This is quite impressive stuff - and it is shown for a considerable while.
Does anybody have information about what film that is from?

Woman chased across an icy river? Sounds like it could be "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Possibly "The Perils of Pauline". Or it could be something they shot just for the film.

It's actually an excerpt from the 1927 version of Uncle Tom's Cabin. It's a really phenomenal scene isn't it? It's up in parts on YouTube. Type in "Uncle Tom's Cabin 1927" There seems to be some other silent film versions posted as well.

It's definitely Uncle Tom's Cabin. I saw it recently and it's very good and entertaining if you like silent films (which I do).
