Pet Peeve about People Shooting at Cheyenne

I've seen two episodes recently where someone tried to shoot Cheyenne from ambush and Cheyenne falls down, pretending to be shot. Not to be picky, but:

1. If Cheyenne isn't shot, where does the stray bullet go?

2. Why doesn't the shooter know he hasn't hit his target? Shouldn't there be a ricochet or Bodie's horse react to being wounded?

Let's take a vote: Who wants to stay and die?

A couple of bits of trivia I'd be more interested in knowing than whether Clint Walker takes off his shirt in a particular episode:

1. In how many episodes is George Custer mentioned and how does his relationship to Cheyenne conflict with each other or are they in sync?

2. How many times does Cheyenne resign in disgust from being a lawman in the course of the series?

Let's take a vote: Who wants to stay and die?

1. It could just go into soft dirt, sand, etc.
2. If the shooter is some distance away, especially if using a pistol instead of a rifle, it's often hard to tell where the bullet went. Sometimes the only way to tell is if one really hits the human target. So if the human fakes being hit, it's hard to tell he's faking.

In those days black powder as used as propellant and made a lot of gun smoke. Thus it was hard to see if you hit the target in real life. I don't know how much smoke the guns in Cheyenne made.
