Captain Kangaroo RIP 1927-2004

Just heard this morning that he passed away.

This is getting way too sad. So many reminders of my childhood are dying off.

Just got the message as of this afternoon that he passed away at the age of 76 from a long illness this morning.

The man known to millions of children around the world as Captain Kangaroo is no longer with us. This also goes to those kids who used to watch him as children now babyboomers are really gonna missed him dearly since he was an inspiration to us all.

This is getting way too sad since most of my childhood was spent watching Captain Kangaroo, and this was every morning before I went to school. By the way,who can't forget the beloved characters that the Captain had.....Mister Moose,Bunny Rabbit,Mister Green Jeans,Dennis The Painter,Grandfather Clock,
and not to mention The Dancing Bear. That was a part of childhood that was fun and interesting not to mention educational and frankly, those days are no more.

Captain Kangaroo was part of my generation. Bob Keeshan will be truly missed.

Last year,we lost Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers Neighborhood and to me Bob Keeshan and Fred Rogers were the pioneers of children's television and those days are gone forever, but not in our memories.

They maybe gone but not forgotten. They will remain with us for the rest of our lives.

R.I.P.-Bob Keeshan "Captain Kangaroo"-(1927-2004)

Gone are the greats and the best of children's television............

Rest In Peace Captain Kangaroo.

Whatever happened to the shows like, and these were good children's shows....
"Bozo The Clown"-which still comes on Chicago's WGN-TV weekday mornings, and still is on the air to this day after some 35 years.

"Mister Knowz-It"-a widely popular children's educational show that used to come on every Saturday and Sunday mornings in the 1970's from South Carolina where it was shown on WIS-TV in Columbia,South Carolina and several NBC affliate stations caught on for the next two decades. Its still on the air.

"The Old Rebel Show"-very popular children's show which features a Southern Colonel that came on every weekday morning on WFMY-TV in Greensboro,North Carolina. This was back in the mid-1960's and throughout the 1970's and 1980's.

"Time For Uncle Paul"-This was a grand favorite of mine since I was on this show back in the day where came on three times a day from station WRAL-TV in
Raleigh,North Carolina. The guy who played Uncle Paul was also a jazz musician with a widely popular jazz group and sadly he is no longer with us. The musician's name and the guy who played Uncle Paul? Paul Montgomery.

"Davey and Goliath"-very inspirational religious children's show about a boy and his dog ran every Sunday morning for three decades until their return in a recent Mountain Dew commercial. I heard Davey and Goliath are making a comeback, this time to clean the air of Sunday morning programming.

"Romper Room"-This was basically a children's show but aimed at pre-schoolers
which used to come on every weekday morning before sunrise for three decades until its revival in the 1980's.

Where are they now? They're gone but not forgotten.

I'm just a kid now (still 18) but I remember the Captain. I guess it must've been for the 6 years the show moved to another public station or on syndication, I don't know. I think the last time I saw Captain Kangaroo I was probably 6 years old or less, but that was always one of the coolest shows. I was in my mom's car with her yesterday and on the news they said that he had died that morning. I was shocked, but I thought my mom was going to cry. She grew up with the Captain too, and it's so crazy that he was on the air for long enough to touch so many generations. Now when are they going to release the show on DVD or VHS??

i loved to watch captain when i was a little girl. i used to eat my breakfast right in the front of the t.v. set so i wouldn't miss it. we also had some very good local children's t.v. shows. the first two were rocket ship 7 and commander tom. i didn't watch rocket ship 7 much since that was on at the sametime as captain. commander tom was on in the afternoon so i watched him. on sunday's there was one that i can't think of the name of right now. there was another called uncle jerry. one was on in the morning on sundays and uncle jerry came on in the afternoon. i wish they would bring back children's programs like those. most today's children's programs is junk.
