It is a shame that with all the cable channels available, that no one is broadcasting old episodes of Captain Kangaroo. Could it be that difficult to get the rights to rebroadcast this classic series? And with all of the tv series going straight to dvd, I'm sure many parents would love to share the decent values and entertainment that Bob Keeshan brought to them with their children. When I was a kid, I woke up every morning and watched the Captain.....at least until CBS decided to extend the morning news so I could wake up to violence and fear. What a shame.
I'm no network marketing expert but I keep thinking that CBS is missing a marketing opportunity. A lot of baby boomers, including me, grew up with Captain Kangaroo. I would think that quite a few of us would like to buy DVDs for our kids and grandkids to watch. As I see it, CBS has the Captain Kangaroo videotapes sitting in a vault somewhere not earning any money whatsoever. It should be a simple matter to contract out with a 3rd party to convert those to DVD and distribute. Even if it only adds a few million dollars to CBS's profits each year, that'll pay for quite a few salaries. How about it, CBS? Can someone provide a reason that Captain Kangaroo is still not on DVD? My two growing boys are quickly losing the opportunity to watch this wonderful show.
I recently received a response to my post from a gentleman who indicated that a CBS technician informed him that CBS does not have tapes of the series. He also indicated that the Keeshan estate is said to have only a couple of handfuls of episodes. I have not verified the information but am just providing the feedback I received.
